The special conditions required for successful animal models, needs of the animals during imaging, and the avoidance of environmental and physiologic artifacts to the images are discussed.

Evaluation of [67Ga] citrate in the detection of various microorganism infections in animal models
Introduction: Gallium-67 citrate has been known as a good infection agent in nuclear medicine for decades. In this work the value of 67Ga-citrate has been investigated in infected animal models using SPECT imaging at optimized/standardized conditions. Methods: The bacterial (Staphylococcus aureus; S.a. and Escherichia coli; E.c.) and fungal (<em...
متن کاملMicroSPECT and MicroPET Imaging of Small Animals for Drug Development
The process of drug discovery and development requires substantial resources and time. The drug industry has tried to reduce costs by conducting appropriate animal studies together with molecular biological and genetic analyses. Basic science research has been limited to in vitro studies of cellular processes and ex vivo tissue examination using suitable animal models of disease. However, in th...
متن کاملCardiac Radionuclide Imaging in Rodents: A Review of Methods, Results, and Factors at Play
The interest around small-animal cardiac radionuclide imaging is growing as rodent models can be manipulated to allow the simulation of human diseases. In addition to new radiopharmaceuticals testing, often researchers apply well-established probes to animal models, to follow the evolution of the target disease. This reverse translation of standard radiopharmaceuticals to rodent models is compl...
متن کاملAccurate molecular imaging of small animals taking into account animal models, handling, anaesthesia, quality control and imaging system performance
Small-animal imaging has become an important technique for the development of new radiotracers, drugs and therapies. Many laboratories have now a combination of different small-animal imaging systems, which are being used by biologists, pharmacists, medical doctors and physicists. The aim of this paper is to give an overview of the important factors in the design of a small animal, nuclear medi...
متن کاملA Review on Medicinal Plants Used in Animal Models and Clinical Trials concerning Drug Addiction
Addiction to drugs, such as heroin, cocaine and alcohol, exacts great human and financial costs on society. Various evidence-based pharmacological and psychosocial interventions are currently used in the treatment of drug addiction but they do not produce adequate therapeutic benefits in every patient. Further, barriers such as financial cost, lack of availability, or perceptions of existing tr...
